Karachi, August 4, 2025 — Heavy monsoon rains have inundated several parts of Karachi, leading to flooding, traffic disruptions, and prolonged power outages in multiple areas. The downpour, which began late Sunday night, continued through Monday morning, overwhelming the city’s drainage system.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) recorded more than 90mm of rain in certain districts within 12 hours. Major roads, including Shahrah-e-Faisal and University Road, were submerged, forcing motorists to abandon vehicles in knee-deep water.
🚧 Areas Worst Affected:
- Saddar Town
- Gulshan-e-Iqbal
- North Karachi
- Korangi Industrial Area
The Karachi Electric spokesperson confirmed that over 600 feeders were shut down as a safety measure, leaving thousands without electricity. Meanwhile, the Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an advisory for citizens to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary.
🗣️ “Our teams are working to clear roads and restore power, but continuous rain is slowing progress,” said Karachi Administrator Farhan Ahmed.
The PMD warns that more rain is expected in the next 48 hours, raising concerns of urban flooding in low-lying areas.
