President Zardari Vows to Safeguard Minority Rights and Promote Religious Harmony

ISLAMABAD, August 11, 2025 — President Asif Ali Zardari has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, protection, and equal rights of its minority communities, describing them as an integral and respected part of the nation’s social fabric.Speaking at a ceremony marking National Minorities Day at Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Zardari praised the contributions of minority communities to the country’s strength and development. He underscored that their rights, freedoms, and safety are fully guaranteed under the Constitution of Pakistan, and that acts of discrimination, extremism, or violence will not be tolerated.The President highlighted several government initiatives to promote inclusion and equal opportunities, including:Reserved seats for non-Muslims in the Parliament and Provincial AssembliesA 5% quota in federal and provincial government jobs for minoritiesScholarships for minority students from primary school to higher and professional educationLeaders of various minority communities thanked President Zardari for his 2009 decision, during his first presidential tenure, to officially declare 11th August as National Minorities Day. They hailed the move as a milestone in recognising their contributions and protecting their rights.President Zardari also pledged that minority worship places under illegal occupation would be restored without delay. He called on the government to take immediate action to return these properties to their rightful custodians.The President noted that the National Policy for Interfaith Harmony was designed to foster religious tolerance, strengthen social unity, and integrate all communities into a cohesive national identity.Citing the Charter of Madina and the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he said Pakistan remains committed to building an inclusive society where every citizen, regardless of religion, enjoys equal rights and opportunities.Marking the occasion, President Zardari urged the nation to strengthen unity and mutual respect, ensuring that every citizen can contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s shared future.
