Submerged Antiquities Exhibition in Alexandria
Alexandria, August 21, 2025, 09:58 AM PKT – Egypt opened the Secrets of the Sunken City Exhibition at the Alexandria National Museum today, showcasing 86 rare artifacts from the Medi terranean seabed.
The display highlights treasures from submerged cities like Thonis – Heracleion and Canopus.
The artifacts, recovered from sites including the Eastern Harbor’s Royal Quarter, date back to the 6th century BC to 4th century AD.
Thonis – Heracleion sank due to earth quakes and rising sea levels, while Canopus was known for its sacred sanctuaries to Osiris and Serapis, according to the Egyptian Tourism and Antiquities Ministry.
This exhibition aims to preserve and share Egypt’s under water heritage, drawing global attention to its rich history.
