Bani Gala Shopkeepers Fined, Released After Price Control Hearings

Islamabad, August 26, 2025, 03:49 AM PKT – Bani Gala Shopkeepers Fined, Released After Price Control Hearings

Following the arrest of five shopkeepers in Bani Gala for overcharging on August 25, 2025, the Islamabad district administration concluded legal hearings, imposing fines and releasing the violators on August 26, 2025.

The action reinforces the ongoing crackdown on profiteering to ensure affordable essential goods in the capital.

Magistrate Mir Yameen, who led the initial inspections, confirmed fines totaling Rs. 150,000 for violations involving sugar and substandard produce.

Compliance with government prices is non-negotiable,” Yameen told NEN, citing inspections at grocery stores and vegetable markets.

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon directed magistrates to monitor markets daily, with 19 shopkeepers arrested citywide in July for similar violations.

The administration has expanded its complaint helpline, receiving over 50 public reports since August 25.

Citizens are encouraged to report overpricing via designated cells, with immediate action promised.

The campaign, supported by ICT Police, aims to stabilize prices of essentials like flour and pulses by September.
