China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) launched new measures on August 28, 2025, to implement guidelines for advancing its satellite communication industry, following the announcement to promote high-quality development by 2030.

The policies aim to expand low-orbit satellite internet and direct-to-device connectivity.

MIIT official Chen Lidong told NEN,

“We’re accelerating infrastructure to connect 10 million users by 2030.”

The measures include licensing private firms like GalaxySpace for satellite services and integrating technologies like 6G and IoT, with 38 satellites launched in August alone.

Applications will span agriculture and transportation.

The policies align with the Belt and Road Initiative, boosting connectivity in Southeast Asia and Africa .

China Telecom’s Tiantong-1 system will support Hong Kong and Macao users by 2026

“This is a digital leap forward,” said a ministry spokesperson.
