The Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2025, signed into law by President Asif Ali Zardari on August 31, 2025, was enforced across Pakistan, following its passage by the National Assembly and Senate.
The law enhances security agencies’ powers to counter terrorism while introducing judicial oversight.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told NEN, “This strengthens our fight against terrorism with accountability.”
The amendments allow three-month detentions with judicial review, replacing past arbitrary practices, and include a three-year sunset clause for reassessment.
Over 500 officers will be trained by October to implement the law.
The law addresses rising threats, with 12 terror incidents reported in August alone.
Civil society urged transparent enforcement to protect rights.
“Security and justice must align,” said an activist.
