President Asif Ali Zardari called for enhanced Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) cooperation to drive regional trade and address shared challenges during a preparatory meeting for the upcoming SCO Summit on August 31, 2025.
He emphasized leveraging the SCO for economic connectivity and countering climate and security threats.
Zardari told NEN, “SCO can transform our region’s economic landscape.”
He highlighted Pakistan’s role in promoting CPEC within the SCO framework, aiming to connect Central Asia via Gwadar, with $3 billion in trade deals targeted for 2026.
Preparations for the Tianjin summit were finalized, with 10 agreements planned.
The Foreign Office noted Pakistan’s push for an SCO climate fund to support vulnerable nations. Regional diplomats in Islamabad echoed Zardari’s vision for unity.
“Connectivity is our future,” said an envoy.
