Karachi – Chairperson Benazir Income Support Program Senator Rubina Khalid and BISP Secretary Aamir Ali Ahmed met with Governor State Bank Jamil Ahmed in Karachi to discuss the rollout of digital wallets for BISP payments.
The meeting focused on transferring BISP payments through digital wallets as part of the Prime Minister’s cashless economy vision. Officials reported important progress on introducing secure digital payment systems specifically for deserving women.
Key outcomes from the discussion:
- Transparent and empowered payments: BISP reaffirmed that a transparent, easy, and empowered payment system remains its top priority.
- Interoperability for wider access: Under the new interoperability mechanism, beneficiaries will be able to withdraw funds from any bank, removing barriers tied to specific branches.
- Financial inclusion and autonomy: Officials agreed that digital wallets will promote financial inclusion and strengthen women’s financial autonomy.
- SIM distribution accelerated: The process of providing free mobile SIMs to beneficiaries has been accelerated. Deserving individuals should obtain SIMs from the nearest BISP offices before June 15, 2026.
- Stronger awareness campaign: BISP’s awareness campaign has been made more effective to ensure all eligible individuals can benefit from the digital system.
Governor State Bank Jameel Ahmad assured full support to BISP beneficiaries and committed to making the digital payment systems effective.
Both the State Bank and BISP agreed to work closely to establish a modern, secure, and easy payment system for BISP beneficiaries, marking significant progress toward digitizing social protection payments in Pakistan.
