Islamabad, August 18, 2025 – Dr. Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, CEO of Fauji Gas Company (FGP) and former Convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (AJ&K), expressed deep grief over the devastation caused by Pakistan monsoon floods.
As Chairman of the Jammu & Kashmir People’s Freedom League, he mourned the tragic loss of lives and widespread damage to homes across the affected regions. The destructive floods have impacted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and other areas nationwide. Heavy rains and cloudbursts led to the disaster, displacing thousands of families.
Monsoon Floods Devastate Multiple Provinces
Heavy rainfall and cloudbursts have triggered catastrophic floods in Pakistan. Hundreds have perished, and thousands of families face displacement across several provinces. Vulnerable settlements along riverbanks were most at risk. Water levels surged beyond capacity, devastating communities and infrastructure.
Dr. Rehmani described the situation as dreadful and urged for immediate relief efforts. He attributed the disaster to climate change and melting glaciers, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive action.
National Unity and Relief Operations
“Pakistan faces trials from climate change. We must help our people now,” Dr. Rehmani emphasized, appealing for unity and immediate action. He stressed the critical need for coordinated aid and rehabilitation efforts. Both government agencies and NGOs must closely collaborate to provide effective flood relief in Pakistan. Displaced families require urgent support, while damaged infrastructure needs rebuilding, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa flood zones.
Prime Minister Leads Federal Response From Islamabad
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif leads nationwide rescue operations from Islamabad, coordinating with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to fast-track relief efforts. Essential supplies are being distributed to affected areas, covering:
- Tents for emergency shelters
- Food supplies for displaced families
- Medicines and medical equipment
The Prime Minister also ordered action against illegal waterway encroachments to ensure proper water flow and mitigate future flood risks.
International Community Extends Support
Global leaders have rallied behind Pakistan’s recovery efforts following the devastating floods. International assistance has been pledged from multiple sources. Key international responses include:
- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres offered humanitarian aid and international support
- Russian President Vladimir Putin extended condolences and support to flood victims
- Pakistani celebrities like Asim Azhar and Sarfaraz Ahmed joined calls for nationwide aid
Long-Term Climate Action is Necessary
Dr. Rehmani’s message underscores the need for immediate relief and long-term climate action. Pakistan faces increasing challenges from extreme weather events exacerbated by global climate change. The federal government highlights the importance of sustainable solutions to address both immediate humanitarian needs and enhance future climate resilience. Updating national disaster management strategies is pivotal to protect vulnerable communities from recurring Pakistan monsoon floods.
