ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s Oilseed Department has introduced a plan to enhance indigenous oilseed cultivation. This initiative aims to reduce import dependency and boost domestic edible oil production.
Increasing Local Production
The plan focuses on raising local production to meet 27% of the nation’s edible oil demand. By prioritizing the development of indigenous oilseeds, it seeks effective import substitution.
Enhancing Economic Resilience
This approach is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s economic resilience. Reducing costs associated with imported edible oil will help alleviate the financial strain on the national economy.
Supporting Farmers and Collaboration
The proposal highlights the need to equip farmers with advanced cultivation techniques to increase production. It emphasizes the importance of collaboration among government bodies, research institutions, and the agriculture sector to achieve these goals.
