LAHORE — The Punjab Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) has achieved a world record by performing 10 liver transplants within 24 hours using organs from only three deceased donors.
Historic Medical Milestone for Pakistan
Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman announced the achievement. He called it a historic milestone in Pakistan’s medical history.
The record underscores the institute’s growing capacity in organ transplantation and deceased donor utilisation.
Technical Complexity of the Achievement
Performing 10 liver transplants from three donors in a single day requires advanced surgical techniques. The procedure involves splitting livers and coordinating multiple simultaneous surgical teams.
This technically demanding feat places PKLI among the world’s leading transplant centres. The achievement demonstrates Pakistan’s advancing medical infrastructure and surgical expertise in complex organ transplantation procedures.
