ISLAMABAD, August 16, 2025 — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conducted a critical meeting aimed at transforming the Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Centre. The initiative aspires to develop the facility into a world-class tertiary care hospital that meets international standards.
International Design Partnership with China
The Chinese company Hongkong-AOHUA, known for their global expertise in hospital design, presented their concept to the federal government. This highlights the strong Pakistan-China partnership in healthcare innovation. The design, provided pro bono, reflects the Chinese company’s generosity. Prime Minister Sharif expressed his gratitude, affirming its future value for both the government and patients.
Sustainable and Environmentally Conscious Design
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of sustainability in the design of the Jinnah Medical Complex. Key green initiatives to reduce environmental impact include:
- Solar energy integration for sustainable power
- Utilization of abundant natural lighting to decrease energy consumption
- Water recycling systems for resource conservation
- Implementation of green spaces throughout the facility
Digital Infrastructure and AI Integration
Prime Minister Sharif advocated for complete digitalization of the complex, stressing the role of artificial intelligence in advancing healthcare services. A thorough technical review is planned to ensure the facility is ready for future pandemics and emergencies, with robust planning as a central focus.
Federal Government Oversight and Timeline
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of adhering to the construction schedule, highlighting the federal government’s strategic oversight. This oversight is crucial to ensure the project aligns with international standards.
Attending the meeting were federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath, and PKLI Chairman Dr. Saeed Akhtar. The Chinese delegation was led by Dr. Liu Zhanpei and senior officials.
