ISLAMABAD — Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Thursday called for a cultural shift in public discourse on climate change, urging that environmental issues receive the same social media attention as viral and controversial content.
Addressing the International Conference on Green Journalism, Media, and Climate, Tarar said discussions on environmental challenges must break into the mainstream rather than remain confined to specialist circles.
The minister’s remarks reflect growing concern among Pakistani officials over the country’s vulnerability to climate-related disasters, including devastating floods and prolonged heatwaves, even as public and media engagement on the issue remains limited relative to other trending topics.
