Fatal Accident Claims Ten Lives on Murree Expressway

ISLAMABAD — At least 10 people were killed and 13 others injured Wednesday after a passenger Hiace van plunged into a ravine and caught fire near Khajut on the Islamabad-Murree Expressway. The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) confirmed the incident.

A Motorway Police spokesperson stated the vehicle was carrying tourists at the time of the accident. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site to retrieve the deceased and evacuate the wounded.

Rescue Operations and Medical Response

The injured were shifted to nearby medical facilities following the crash. Several victims remain in critical condition, according to hospital sources.

Emergency responders worked to contain the fire that erupted after the van plunged into the ravine.

Safety Concerns on Popular Tourist Route

The Islamabad-Murree Expressway is a heavily travelled route, particularly during summer months. Large numbers of visitors use the road to reach the popular hill station.

Accidents on the winding mountain road are not uncommon. Contributing factors frequently cited include:

Investigation Underway

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. The NHMP is examining whether mechanical failure or driver error contributed to the tragedy.
