Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign. This initiative is a key part of the Green Pakistan Programme, aiming to expand forest cover and improve soil fertility nationwide using all available resources and natural solutions.
National Call to Environmental Duty
At the launch, the Prime Minister urged citizens to fulfill their environmental responsibilities. “Let us unite in this national tree plantation campaign and make it a success systematically,” he declared. He emphasized the need for collective action to create a “green, healthy, clean, and prosperous Pakistan” for both current and future generations. Environmental protection is a shared responsibility across all segments of society.
Nationwide Participation Framework
The campaign promotes broad participation and actively involves key stakeholders under various themes:
- Federal and provincial governments
- Social and religious leaders
- Citizens of all ages and backgrounds
- Women and youth organizations
- Educational and civic institutions
The Prime Minister highlighted the vital roles of women, youth, and institutions in combating climate change. The campaign will also honor those who have sacrificed their lives during rescue operations.
Ambitious Plantation Targets
The campaign targets the planting of 41 million new saplings from August to October across Pakistan. This initiative addresses pressing environmental challenges in the nation. The Prime Minister pointed out that the current forest coverage of only five percent is insufficient for significant environmental protection. Recent flash floods highlight the urgent need for robust climate adaptation strategies. Mass plantation efforts are a core component of Pakistan’s resilience plan through coordinated national action.
