Bani Gala Market Crackdown
Five shopkeepers in Bani Gala have been fined Rs. 150,000 for overcharging. The penalties were issued by the Islamabad district administration during legal hearings on August 26, 2025. This action is part of a broader price control strategy aimed at mitigating profiteering and enhancing the affordability of essential goods in the federal capital.
Enforcement of Pricing Regulations
Magistrate Mir Yameen led inspections that revealed pricing violations, including excessive charges for sugar and the sale of substandard produce. These efforts primarily targeted grocery stores and vegetable markets in Bani Gala. Yameen emphasized, “Compliance with government prices is non-negotiable.”
Strengthened Market Surveillance
Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon has directed magistrates to conduct daily market surveillance throughout Islamabad. This increased oversight follows the arrest of 19 shopkeepers in July for similar offenses. Since August 25, the complaint helpline has expanded, logging over 50 reports from the public. Authorities are prepared to swiftly address verified complaints.
Stabilization of Essential Goods Prices
The price control campaign, supported by the ICT Police, focuses on stabilizing essential commodity prices. Key items under observation include:
- Flour
- Pulses
- Sugar
- Fresh produce
Objective: Stable Prices by September
The target is to stabilize prices by September through rigorous enforcement. Public cooperation and regular market inspections are crucial to maintaining affordable pricing. Price violations can be reported via the district administration’s hotline for swift corrective action.
