Rawalpindi, August 25, 2025, 06:58 PM PKT – The District Health Authority (DHA) Rawalpindi has intensified its efforts against dengue and polio. Over 1,500 workers are active in 20 high-risk Union Councils, targeting critical outbreak zones with prevention and vaccination strategies.
Emergency Response in High-Risk Areas
A recent surge in dengue cases has led to emergency measures across Rawalpindi district. The DHA focuses on regions like Chak Jalal Din and Rahmatabad to manage outbreaks. More than 30,000 dengue cases have been reported in these high-risk zones.
Dr. Jawad Zahid, District Health Officer, said, “We’ve boosted indoor surveillance and vaccination drives to protect communities.” Resources are directed toward vulnerable populations to combat the health threats.
Multifaceted Campaign Approach
The DHA employs a comprehensive strategy, deploying 1,200 indoor teams in vulnerable communities. Female sanitary controllers play a crucial role, ensuring access to all households, especially in conservative areas.
- Indoor surveillance teams conduct house-to-house visits
- Larvicides are applied in stagnant water hotspots
- Student-led awareness initiatives with academic incentives
- Media collaborations educate the community
Scheduled Polio Vaccination Drive
A polio vaccination drive is planned for September 1–4, 2025, targeting Rawalpindi city and Cantonment areas. Health workers will administer oral polio vaccines to children under five during this period.
Engaging Community and Media
The DHA is actively engaging media and communities to spread prevention strategies. Teams focus on mosquito breeding grounds with larvicides to prevent mosquito maturation.
Deputy Commissioner Ali Raza emphasized, “Community engagement is our backbone.” Local participation is essential for achieving polio-free status.
Goals During Monsoon Season
The campaigns aim to reduce dengue cases during the crucial September–November monsoon period. Achieving a polio-free status by 2026 is a key objective for the District Health Authority.
The DHA will continue monitoring high-risk areas throughout the monsoon season, providing updates and progress reports to the public.
