Islamabad, August 27, 2025, 01:02 AM PKT –
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has significantly advanced Sutlej flood relief efforts, aiding over 190,000 evacuees in Pakistan. As of August 26, 2025, 67 relief camps are operational across Punjab. These efforts follow major evacuations triggered by heavy rainfall and water released from India’s Bhakra Dam.
Relief Operations Across Punjab
According to NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider, the primary focus is to sustain relief efforts and assess damages. Relief camps in Bahawalnagar, Kasur, and Okara are providing essential services, including:
- Food supplies and shelter for evacuees
- 38 medical camps treating over 2,600 individuals
- 46 veterinary camps caring for 17,000 livestock
Prime Minister Directs Crop Damage Audit
Following instructions from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the NDMA plans a comprehensive crop damage audit by September 5. This initiative aims to evaluate agricultural losses in the flood-hit areas. The audit will guide compensation and support for farmers affected by the floods in Punjab. Agricultural losses remain a pressing concern for these communities.
Impending Rainfall Raises Additional Concerns
Heavy rainfall is forecasted in Punjab until August 31, raising concerns for vulnerable areas such as Vehari and Pakpattan, where 75 villages remain submerged. The NDMA advises residents to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert app for real-time safety updates. “We’re committed to recovery,” emphasized Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed.
