Female School Attendance Reaches 57% in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD — Female school attendance in Pakistan has increased to 57%, marking a significant advancement in educational opportunities for girls. Official documents reveal that the proportion of females aged 10 and above attending school rose from 50% in 2018-19 to 57% in 2024-25. Provincial Improvements Various provinces have shown notable improvements in female school attendance: Punjab: Attendance climbed from 59% to 65%. Sindh: Saw an increase from 45% to 49%. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Attendance jumped from 38% to 47%. Balochistan: Improved from 24% to 34%. These figures reflect enhanced educational access for girls across the nation. Rural and National Trends Rural regions have also experienced significant progress, with school attendance rising from 53% to 59%. Additionally, the percentage of females aged 10 and above completing at least primary education increased from 42% to 48%. Literacy Rates The literacy rate for females aged 10 and above reached 54% by 2024-25. Expanding educational access for girls continues to positively impact Pakistan’s education sector. National Impact The national rate of out-of-school children declined from 38% in 2023 to 28% in 2025. Furthermore, the national literacy rate for individuals aged 10 and above increased from 61% to 63%.
