One New Bill Introduced in Senate, Two Referred to Standing Committees

ISLAMABAD, August 15, 2025 — The Senate session on Friday demonstrated progress in Pakistan’s federal legislation. A new bill was introduced and two others sent to standing committees, showcasing active parliamentary processes.

Federal Prosecution Service Bill

Talal Chaudhry, Minister of State for Interior and Narcotics, introduced the Federal Prosecution Service (Amendment) Bill, 2025. This bill seeks to revise the framework established by the Federal Prosecution Service Act of 2023.

The new legislation will follow the standard legislative process before it can be enacted.

Bills Referred to Standing Committees

Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani assigned two bills, previously approved by the National Assembly, to the relevant standing committees for detailed review. This is a key phase in parliamentary scrutiny.

National School of Public Policy Amendment

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar introduced the National School of Public Policy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, set for comprehensive evaluation by the appropriate committee.

Following assessment, the amendment bill will return to the Senate for reconsideration and possible approval.

Petroleum Sector Amendment

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik presented the Petroleum (Amendment) Bill, 2025. This bill intends to assess its effects on Pakistan’s energy and petroleum sectors.

Virtual Assets Ordinance Presentation

Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, presented the Virtual Assets Ordinance, 2025 (Ordinance No. VII of 2025) on behalf of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

This presentation complies with constitutional requirements under Article 89(2) of Pakistan’s Constitution.
