WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has announced that a peace deal with Iran is nearing completion and is expected to be signed soon. He has criticized Israel, blaming it for delays caused by an airstrike in Beirut.
Criticism of Israel
During the final stages of negotiation, Trump condemned the Israeli airstrike, highlighting its poor timing, which delayed the agreement’s signing. In a phone interview with Axios, he remarked, “It delayed the signing by a few hours. It was supposed to be now. Now it is scheduled for a few hours from now.”
Trump expressed his disapproval to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stressing the strike’s timing impact. Nevertheless, he reaffirmed that negotiations are advancing.
Restraint and Dialogue
Trump has urged all involved parties to exercise restraint and remain committed to open dialogue. This commitment is crucial for the successful completion of the agreement.
Optimism from Pakistan
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif remains optimistic about finalizing the agreement within a day, noting negotiations are in the final stages. Iran, however, insists that the deal should address the broader regional conflict, including actions against Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon.
Imminent Agreement
Despite delays from the Israeli airstrike, Trump assured that the peace deal, aimed at stabilizing the region, including Lebanon, is imminent. He called on all parties to “stand down.” Although recent events have caused setbacks, continued open communication channels offer hope for reaching a final accord.
